Vahid Ghorbanian defended his PhD thesis on "An HPC-based Data-driven Approach to System-level Design Process for Integrated Motor-Drive Systems".
Rodrigo César Pedrosa Silva defended his PhD thesis on "Surrogate problem evaluation and selection for optimization with expensive function evaluations".
Armin Salimi defended his PhD thesis on "Computer-Aided Design of Electrical Machines: The Role of Robustness and Application of Statistical Analysis Techniques in Multi-Objective Design Optimization".
CompEM lab members including Prof. David A. Lowther, Mohammad Hossain Mohammadi and Sajid Hussain attended and presented five papers at COMPUMAG 2017 in Daejeon, Korea.
These include works on design optimization of electric machines and iron loss modelling.

He later visited the CompEM lab and held discussions with lab members.
CompEM lab members attended and presented more than ten papers at the 17th IEEE Conference on Electromagnetic Field Computation in Miami, FL, USA.

A team of researchers from CHARGE Labs of University of Windsor visited CompEM Laboratory from July 27 to July 28.
Dr. Paolo Di Barba delivered a presentation on "Strategies of optimal design in electricity and magnetism" to the CompEM lab members. PhD students and lab affiliates also discussed their research work with him through short presentations.

Emily Porter defended her PhD thesis on "Microwave time-domain radar for monitoring breast health: development and testing of an early prototype".
Dr. Ing. Ugo Piovan, internationally-recognized expert in transformer, from Switzerland visited COMPEM on March 2nd 2015.
Professor Stéphane Clénet of Lille1 University France joined the CompEM Lab as a visiting researcher on March 2nd 2015. He will be working in collaboration with Prof. D. A. Lowther.
